We were standing in the airport, waiting for our ride. I looked around and noticed a local young woman dressed in jeans, T-shirt and light winter coat. A guide as understood. She was surrounded by the group of tourists, mostly youngsters. It seems they’ve just arrived in Budapest and were very excited to be here, they all were smiling and discussing plans for the holiday. Meanwhile, woman was writing down their names and collecting money. Banknotes were unfamiliar to me. “Maybe Croatian”, I thought. “Or Romanian”. But why would they use wrong currency in Hungary? And then it hit me… Currency wasn’t wrong, it was Hungarian!

What and where we ate in Budapest
We didn’t eat much outside during our stay in Hungary. Mainly because this time we had the whole apartment at our disposal, and we could cook at home at any time we wanted. And as I mentioned in the first Budapest post, closest food market Lidl was a couple of hundred meters away. So, we prepared all our breakfasts and some dinners in our small kitchen (this is one way to save money when you travel by the way). Nevertheless, we managed to visit few eateries. What Budapest has to offer. Part 2
One morning we decided to go to the Hungarian National museum. But it turned out to be closed that day. Which was weird because I’ve checked opening hours in the internet, and it was supposed to be open. We didn’t have any specific plans, so we stared thinking what else we could do today. And then I remembered reading reviews about the historical Metro Line 1 (yellow M1, also known as Millennium Underground), the oldest metro line in Budapest, and the second oldest in the world (opened in 1896).

Normally I would make a list of the things I want to see or go to during our travels. But as soon as I started reading endless TOP-5, -10, -20 things you must do in Budapest, I quickly came to realization that it will be impossible to check even one tenth of all the cultural and historical sights this city has to offer. And we had only five days, even less than that because of the flight schedule. “So, we’d better make the most of it”, thought I while packing my carry-on.

Usually I reserve a hotel and buy plane tickets at least two months in advance. It’s less stressful for me this way, – it’s done and no need to worry about it anymore. I can just relax and put the vacation countdown. I like to plan ahead, I like to know what is coming and where. But this time I’ve decided to do things differently…
What to do in Munich in 3 hours
Unfortunately, Munich has never been our final destination. But I’m glad we were lucky enough to have a glimpse of this beautiful city. How did we manage to do that? Easy! In order to save money, we are simply avoiding direct flights. And instead we are looking for transfer flights and searching for places where we could spend our waiting time (approximately five to seven hours*). That way we are able to see more cities and countries during our travels.
Serbia. What I’ve learned and first impression
What I knew about Serbia before we came here? Well, I’ve heard that it’s a beautiful country, the food is delicious, and beer is cheap. That’s all.
Previously I was reading a lot of information about the country we were going to. I was making a wish-list of the things I hoped to see, and sometimes I was preparing more detailed plan of our journey. Yes, that’s how I rolled. But nowadays I prefer to travel with a clear mind and opened heart, ready for adventures. That’s the reason why I kept my knowledge of Serbia to a minimum. And this approach made me feel like an explorer.
Day trip to Vršac
I can’t say that I am a spontaneous person. On the contrary, I prefer to plan everything, including our vacation: where to go, what to see, etc. But when I saw Vršac on a map that was given to us by the Tourist information center of Bela Crkva, I got curious and googled it. Main thing that made me want to go there was the medieval Vršac tower (Vršačka kula). If you have been following my Instagram or my blog for some time now, then you know about my love for everything that was built and made in the Medieval Ages. So, I arranged a driver for us, and we hit the road next day.
