The weather was gloomy, and there was not much to do within the four walls, so I thought it might be the perfect time for a road trip adventure. And when you live in Finland it’s easy to arrange. All I needed was a car and a driver. Luckily, I had both.

Museum tour in Suomenlinna
Suomenlinna or Sveaborg in Swedish is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It’s an inhabited sea fortress built on the few islands in the 18th century, when Finland was still part of Sweden. Suomenlinna is my absolute favorite place in Helsinki! You can play outdoors games here, explore the fortress, have a picturesque picnic or take the sun and simply enjoy the beauty around you. There are also museums, craft shops, restaurants and summer theater.
Snowy Easter in Kaipola
Last days of March… and spring was nowhere to be found. Grey landscapes of Helsinki and Espoo were starting to bore and depress me. Holiday in Sri Lanka. Part eight. The Beauty
This will be the last post about our road trip adventure across Sri Lanka. I feel a bit sad because these posts made me relive all the wonderful moments we had in this beautiful country. But I’m also happy that I can share my stories and travel experience with you guys. As Nelly Furtado’s song goes: “All good things come to an end”. But not just yet.
The Ultimate winter experience
I remember my first visit to snowy Central Finland like it was yesterday… I remember how fascinated I was by the beauty of majestic Finnish nature. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve seen the snow before. White winters were quite common also in Latvia, where I grew up. But somehow in Finland it seems different.
Holiday in Sri Lanka. Part six. Mini adventure
That same day we visited Oak Ray Handcrafted Wood Carvings. To be honest I was surprised to read so many negative reviews on TripAdvisor about this place. Some people even say something like: “don’t get out from the car if your driver takes you here!”.
Holiday in Sri Lanka. Part five. Mini adventure
In the next couple blog posts I will tell you about our mini adventure. After checking the travel guide and map of Sri Lanka, we’ve made a list of places we wished to visit. And then we started planning our three-day trip with our driver.
To Porvoo by ship
Porvoo is one of my favorite cities. I mean what not to like?! Lovely old wooden houses that look like a fairy tale illustration, little markets where locals are selling handcrafted goods: jewelry, clothes, accessories, candles, home décor, etc.
