Travel hunting. In search of a perfect getaway

Behind the scenes. Travel hunting. In search of a perfect getaway

I started checking holiday package offers quite early this time, even before I knew the exact vacation days. And within a few minutes I found a very nice offer on Aurinkomatkat. Seven-day trip to Marmaris (Turkey), straight Finnair flights and an accommodation in a 3-star apartment-hotel cost only 300 euros per person. “Not bad”, thought I and started dreaming about my upcoming perfect getaway.

Unfortunately, by the time I was absolutely sure about my holiday weeks, Aurinkomatkat have risen the price from 300 euros to 412 (!). No can do, shit happens, as they say. So, here is the valuable lesson: if you have money and you know the days when you can go on a trip, then better not to hesitate and take the deal right away.

Why I prefer to take a one-week holiday instead of two?

There are few reasons for that. Travel agencies that are selling holiday packages are usually having only two choices, 7- or 14-days’ vacation. Two weeks holiday might sound awesome, but I personally think that seven days is more than enough for resting and recharging the batteries. Besides, I might enjoy 2 weeks vacay so much that in the end it will be extremely hard to go back to reality and back to my regular 9 to 5 job.

I’m also a proud owner of two cats and I don’t like to be separated from them for too long.

And last but not least, I have a certain amount of vacation days per year and in order to feel energized and refreshed all year round I tend to take mini vacations every two-three months. Balancing those days during the year helps me not to feel burnt out at work.

I had vacation days planned and I had some money put aside, yet I still had no idea where I’m going. Last minute deal destinations weren’t that inspiring, so I thought it would be wise to make a plan B, in case I won’t manage to find a suitable holiday package deal. My plan B was Poland. Why Poland? Well, straight Finnair flights are cheap and it’s not a problem to find a cheap accommodation there as well, especially on Airbnb.

When one door closes, another opens

I was already preparing a list of things to do and places to visit in Krakow, when I found another option. Some new travel agency appeared on my radar. Detur. I never heard about this company before. Their offer sounded too good to be true, and I had some doubts about it. But in the end I decided to give it a go.

Where I ended up going and what was the price of Detur last minute package deal you’ll find out in my next blog post, so stay tuned.

Hope you enjoyed it!
