I have been in Tallinn dozens of times, yet I rarely trying to find any new beer and food places. I mean, if you have already found couple of restaurants and pubs that satisfy you, then why to waste a precious time on searching something else. Why to change a pleasant atmosphere and good service for something vague and unknown?
On the one hand, I do like stability. But on the other… I get bored eventually. And I start feeling a need to change familiar surroundings. In other words, I want to be… let’s call it adventurous. I want to explore and make new discoveries. And that’s exactly what I did when I went to Tallinn last time. So, here are few places that I’ve visited…
Beer Garden. I saw the advertisement in some Tallinn guide newspaper and decided to give it a try. And it was worth it!
Stylish interior, friendly stuff, reasonable prices and good beer. And they are making one of my favorite (nowadays) beer snacks – pig’s ears. Love those! So delicious!
Cheese café (Juustukuningad), located in Norde Centrum (Nautica keskus) shopping mall.
It’s quickly became my favorite café in Tallinn. Why? Well, first of all, this café is combined with the cheese shop. Despite its small size, it has a great selection of different kinds of cheese. And you can try them all before purchasing! How awesome is that?! I could easily spend here whole day!
Do you see that weird looking blue cheese (reminds me one of the cocktails I drank – Blue Lagoon)? I’ve tried it! It has an interesting taste, with the hint of pesto. Weird and yummy!
Second of all, I really do like their interior. It’s stylish yet cozy and homey. And thirdly, their prices… They are quite affordable, especially if you are from Finland or Scandinavia. For instant, I ordered green tea for 3.50 euros, and that’s what I’ve got:
I mean how cool is that?! Could I recommend this place? Without a doubt! Keep up a good work Cheese café! I can only add a famous phrase from the Terminator movie: I’ll be back!
Next stop is a burger heaven – Linnutee Puhvet Street food.
I’m not really a burger person. Burger for me is just a krapularuoka, as we say it in Finland. Which means hangover food. But it’s not even on my top three hangover food list. My husband on the other hand had some sort of an urge to eat a burger. And after reading menu from three different places, we ended up in Linnutee Puhvet Street food. Originally, I was thinking to take a burrito… but when I saw the word “beef” in the burger menu I just couldn’t refuse. So, I ordered a burger.
May I just say… best decision EVER!!! My God, it was so delicious! Juicy, tasty… and that succulent sauce! It was a piece of heaven! And it leaves such a wonderful aftertaste. Oh, memories of the first bite make my mouth water right now.
Do you like street food? Do you like burgers? Do you like beer? If the answers are “yes”, then you might like this place.
One of the places that I always wanted to visit in the Old town was a medieval restaurant Olde Hansa. I just love medieval theme!
We didn’t eat anything here though, we just had a beer.
But after that visit I am considering returning to this place. I even know what I’m going to order from their menu! Sausages made of bear, wild boar and elk. Those will go very well with the beer. Can’t wait to go there again!
Another interesting discovery was a Scottish pub – The Highlander:
Some of you might wonder what’s the point of going to Scottish Pub in Estonia… Well, what can I say… after visiting Scotland I’ve realized that love at first sight does actually exist. Because that what happened between me and this amazing country. And after that memorable trip I can’t stop thinking about it. So, when I saw magical words “Scottish Pub” I remembered the taste of Tennent’s lager and… haggis. Oh yes, I’m a big fan of haggis! Could eat it every day and never get bored of it.
Imagine my surprise when I saw haggis bites in their menu. I ordered it without hesitation. And Scottish lager. It tastes similar to original haggis… I’ll be honest, it doesn’t taste the same as the one I had in the Inveraray. Nevertheless, bite of Scottish dish made my day.
Last but not least is a pub called Scotland Yard. I have passed this place dozens of times, since it always on our way to hotel. But only this spring we finally decided to check it out.
When I got inside, I felt like a main character from the movie Jumper. One moment I am in Tallinn… and the next – I’m standing in the middle of classic library that belongs to some retired Scotland Yard police officer. Dark wood, leather chairs, green lamps… and lots of police stuff in display: pistols, handcuffs, office supplies, books, etc. Even waitresses are dressed like the police officers!
One negative thing about this place is that the beer is overpriced comparing to other places we’ve been to in the Old Town. But I guess you are paying extra for the great interior and life music. Which is fine by me.
Hope you enjoyed it!
